Bio

2016 (Sophomore): Madonia moved up into the main kicker role for the Golden Eagles and excelled, completing 13 of his 16 field goal attempts and 33 of his 35 extra-point tries. After missing his first two of the season, Madonia hit eight straight field goals between the Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois contests before missing his first try at Tennessee State. But from that game on, he closed out the season with seven straight successful kicks -- including a school-record 57-yarder against the Tigers, the longest for the Golden Eagles since Ryan Weeks (1989) and Murray Cunningham (1974) kicked 53-yard completions. The kick was tied for the longest in the Football Championship Subdivision with TSU's Lane Clark, who kicked a 57-yarder earlier in the season.

Madonia was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference team as a second-team specialist. He ended the campaign with a team-high 72 points, tied for the fifth most in school history in a single season behind Dontey Gay (90, 2011), Larry Shipp (90, 2007), Michael Penix (78, 1995) and Larry Schreiber (78, 1969) and tied with Josh Foster (72, 2004) and Jason Ballard (72, 2003).

2015 (Freshman): Madonia handled kickoff duties last season.

HIGH SCHOOL: A third-team All-Midstate selection, Nick Madonia was a kicker from Centennial High School with a strong leg and tremendous accuracy. The grandson of legendary Overton football coach Nick Coutras, Madonia connected on 9-of-13 field goal attempts in 2014, including a season-long 52-yarder in the Cougars' Week 6 win over Mt. Juliet. He also converted 47-of-49 extra-point attempts and averaged 35.4 yards on 41 punts, helping lead Centennial to a 10-3 record and the Class 6A quarterfinals. On kickoffs, he had 36 touchbacks. He scored 74 points as a senior, and finished his career with 252 total points. In his prep career, he was 31-for-43 on field goals.

PERSONAL: The son of Catrina Coutras and Frank Madonia...born February 25, 1997 in Nashville...ful name is Nicholas Michael Madonia...mother Catrina was a member of the Tennessee Tech dance team from 1983-1987.

ACADEMIC: Majoring in civil engineering…named to the Spring 2016 AD’s Honor Roll…named to the 2015-16 OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Wright returning to Golden Eagle football staff

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Dontae Wright didn’t want to stay away from Tennessee Tech for long. After serving on the Golden Eagle football staff for the past two seasons, when presented with the opportunity to reprise his role as the program’s special teams coordinator, Wright already knew his decision. After all, he had a lot of good reasons – all clad in purple and gold.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- The contributions that senior wide receiver Dontez Byrd and junior kicker/punter Nick Madonia brought to the Tennessee Tech football team are very familiar to Golden Eagle football fans. They certainly didn't go unrecognized by the rest of the conference either. As the Ohio Valley Conference released its annual All-OVC postseason honors, the Golden Eagles garnered a first-team offense nod for Byrd and a second-team specialist for Madonia.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Winless no more. After eight long weeks, all the Tennessee Tech football team wanted to do was get a notch under the win column, to get proof that the process was indeed working. CHARLESTON, Ill. – With the way Nick Madonia was kicking the ball on Saturday, there was no doubt that he was the player that head coach Marcus Satterfield wanted in the potential game-winning situation. There were just 10.2 seconds remaining. Madonia was lined up to attempt a 49-yard field goal. Surely, it was nothing – he had already kicked a 51-yarder into the wind earlier to try to keep the Tennessee Tech football team on top.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Earlier in the week, Tennessee Tech head coach Marcus Satterfield challenged senior wide receiver Dontez Byrd to provide more leadership. And considering the numbers Byrd put up on Saturday night against FCS No. 5 Jacksonville State, it’s safe to assume that the senior listened. Byrd caught six passes for 92 yards and a touchdown to lead the Golden Eagles, but the effort came up short as the defending Ohio Valley Conference champions defeated Tech 34-7 at Tucker Stadium.

RICHMOND, Ky. -- With the number of turnovers the Tennessee Tech football team committed on Saturday night, it would have been hard for any team to overcome that adversity. Still the Golden Eagles found a way, rallying in the fourth quarter, and even had a chance to win it. But false start penalties proved costly, running crucial time off the clock and Eastern Kentucky ruined any chance of a Tech comeback win, sacking Andre Sale for the final of the contest and sealing a 24-21 defeat.
