EMO explodes to take final game of series from TTU, 21-10
The Tennessee Tech baseball team took it to the final day of the season, but the Southeast Missouri Redhawks exploded with a season high 21 runs to hand the Golden Eagles a 21-10 loss in the rubber game Saturday afternoon.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Tennessee Tech baseball team took it to the final day of the season, but the Southeast Missouri Redhawks exploded with a season high 21 runs to hand the Golden Eagles a 21-10 loss in the rubber game Saturday afternoon.
With the
win, SEMO (21-31/ 11-16 OVC) clinched the sixth and final spot in
the 2006 OVC Tournament next week in Paducah, Ky. Tech's season
comes to an end with an 18-35 overall mark and an 11-15 record in
the league.
The Redhawk offense erupted with two six-run innings to open up
the first two frames of the game and Tech never caught up. Starter
Matt Kearney gave up six runs in the first inning to take loss. He
was the first of six Tech pitchers in the contest as coach Matt
Bragga also used relievers Blake
Forst, Adam Cloar, Brantley Kilgore, Kevin Cizmarik and Adam
Liberatore.
SEMO picked up a total of 22 hits against the Golden Eagles
pitching staff.
Junior Brian Sprowl led the Golden Eagle offense, picking up three
hits, one run and one RBI. Senior Kyle Rowekamp was next in line to
lead Tech's offense, connecting twice and bringing two Golden
Eagles across the plate.
The Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the second inning
after Sophomore Scott Dunham picked up his second homer of the
year, a two-run shot over the left field fence.
Tech picked up three runs in the seventh, with both Sprowl and
Kyle Rowekamp picking up singles.
With the
score 21-5, the Golden Eagles rallied in the final inning with five
runs before closing the books on the 2006 season. Tech had five
singles during the ninth frame, going down fighting.
