BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After scoring two goals on just two
shots in Tech’s 2-1 victory over Lipscomb in the regular
season finale, Tennessee Tech soccer player Andrea Meloff was named
the Ohio Valley Conference’s Offensive Player of the
Week.
Meloff, a true freshman, led the Golden Eagles and finished the
regular season second in the OVC in goals with seven, and points
with 15.
“Her Lipscomb performance, I felt like she wasn’t going
to be denied, you couldn’t tell her she wasn’t going to
score goals in that game,” Tennessee Tech Head Coach Becky
Fletcher said. “She’s a player who likes the ball at
her feet. She just found a way, she had an inch, and she finished
both times. She scored two great goals. I feel that gives her the
confidence going into the conference tournament that when she wants
to play that way, she can.”
The game was Meloff’s second two-goal game of the season. She
also scored two goals against Alabama State. Meloff is the second
Golden Eagle this season to be named the league’s Offensive
Player of the Week. Junior Jen Hoffman also earned that honor
earlier in the season.
Jacksonville State junior Alex Rustad earned OVC Defensive Player
of the Week honors, while Southeast Missouri’s Kristen
Starkey and UT Martin’s Aubrey Buehler shared Goalkeeper of
the Week honors.
The Golden Eagles are heading into the OVC tournament as the No. 4
seed, where they will take on No. 5 Eastern Illinois on Nov. 5 at 4
p.m. Central in the opening round. If Tech advances it will face
host Morehead State in the semifinals on Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.
