Rhyne rallies to finish 19th, Golden Eagle women place seventh at Drake Creek

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Sophomore Amanda Randolph shot the lowest round of
the tournament Tuesday for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team,
posting a two-over par 74 to wrap up play in 32nd place at the
54hole Drake Creek Invitational hosted by Murray State.
After opening with an 82, senior Carley Rhyne rallied to post
back-to-back scores of 76 and finish as Tech's top individual in
19th place as the Golden Eagles took seventh place in the team
standings.
Morehead State, which led from wire-to-wire, claimed the team
championship with an 893 total score, 16 shots better than runnerup
Western Kentucky (909). Host Murray State (926) was third, followed
by Eastern Kentucky (931), Belmont (939), Austin Peay (940), Tech
(950) and Lipscomb (962).
Rhyne closed with a 234 total, 16 strokes behind medalist Emma
Jonsson from Morehead State. Sophomore Katherine Bell, who also
opened with an 82, finished tied for 25th place for the Golden
Eagles by adding scores of 77 and 78 for a 237 total.
Randolph's final round of 74 came after shooting 82 and 83 in the
first two rounds, giving her a 239 total. Freshman Amber Shepherd
was 39th at 245 and Brandy Van Etten, another freshman, placed 42nd
at 248.
In individual play, freshman Ericka Wann was 34th at 242, freshman
Katy Beth Glover was 49th at 255, and senior Lindsay Spradlen was
one spot back in 50th place at 256.
Wann and Van Etten, both playing in their first collegiate
tournament, had the highlights of the tournament for coach Brandy
Stout's team. Each posted an eagle, two of just three eagles in the
3,186 holes played in the event.
Tech plays this weekend at the Great Smokies Invitational.
