Tech women continue initial OVC road swing at newcomer Lindenwood Saturday
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – As Tennessee Tech heads to Lindenwood on Saturday, it’s a whole new experience. The Lions, one of three new members of the Ohio Valley Conference this season, have never played the Golden Eagles before. With no history to study between the two teams in the past, the pair will lock horns to start a new chapter in Tech’s history. Tipoff on Saturday at Hyland Arena is set for 1 p.m. Roger Ealey will have the broadcast on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – As Tennessee Tech heads to Lindenwood on Saturday, it's a whole new experience. The Lions, one of three new members of the Ohio Valley Conference this season, have never played the Golden Eagles before.
With no history to study between the two teams in the past, the pair will lock horns to start a new chapter in Tech's history.
Tipoff on Saturday at Hyland Arena is set for 1 p.m. Roger Ealey will have the broadcast on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
Lindenwood comes into the contest with just one win into its inaugural Division I season, taking a 96-36 victory over Hannibal La Grange. Along the way the Lions (1-11, 0-1 OVC) have seen an interesting mix of mid-major and Group of Five opponents. However, the results just didn't go the way Lindenwood wanted.
Similar to SIUE entering Thursday night's contest, the Lions have seen their statistics inflated by the opponents faced in the early portion of the campaign. On average, Lindenwood is scoring 57.6 points a night, while opponents are averaging 71.8 – a 14.2 margin of difference.
However, the Lions are putting together some solid shooting percentages, including .404 from the floor, .672 at the free-throw line and .325 from the perimeter. Lindenwood is averaging 7.8 3-pointers a game and 7.0 free throws.
The Lions are also averaging 18.3 turnovers a game, but they have been able to force 14.5 in return.
Lindenwood opened up the league campaign Thursday in Charleston, Ill., falling 75-62 to Eastern Illinois. Both teams were square at 14 after the first quarter, then the Lions went cold, shooting 26.7 percent from the field, allowing EIU to take a 20-13 advantage in the period. The Panthers overcame their own slow start with a 33.3 percent clip in the opening 10 minutes and shot 56.3 percent in the second and third quarters before closing the game out in the fourth with a 57.1 clip to preserve the win.
EIU was led in scoring by Lariah Washington with 16 points, while Macy McGlone had 14, Morgan Litwiller 13 and Taris Thornton 11. Washington, McGlone and Litwiller each had six rebounds in the game.
Lindenwood, however, was able to get a pair of 18-point scorers in Devin Fuhring and Mary McGrath, who also led the Lions with eight boards.
For the season, McGrath leads Lindenwood in scoring with an 11.3-point average, while also holding the team lead in rebounds, pulling down 5.7 caroms a night.
Tech (7-4, 1-0 OVC), meanwhile, is coming off a milestone victory at SIUE on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles claimed their 1,000th all-time victory, joining an elite group of 21 NCAA Division I teams to reach that mark.
The Golden Eagles topped the Cougars 85-70 as Maaliya Owens and true freshman Reghan Grimes each put in 16 points, the latter a new season-high for the rookie out of Nashville. Tech also got double-digit performances out of Jada Guinn (14), Reagan Hurst (11) and Peyton Carter (10).
Tech used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to outscore the Cougars 27-12 in the period and put some distance between them and SIUE to claim the 1,000th victory.
On the season as a whole, the Golden Eagles are averaging 67.9 points per game, allowing 66.5 on the opposite end. Tech is shooting .420 from the field, .323 from 3-point range – including an average of 6.4 long-rangers, and .719 from the stripe, collecting an average of 12.1 per game.
On the tale of the tape, Tech is averaging more rebounds than Lindenwood, 34.3 to 29.7, while the Golden Eagles are forcing 16.5 turnovers with 7.7 steals to the Lions' 14.5 turnovers with 6.8 steals.
At present, Owens stands as the only double-digit average scorer on the roster at 12.8 points per game, but there's several hovering near the decade mark with Walker at 9.7 points, and Hurst and Grimes both at 8.9. Grimes currently leads Tech on the glass with a 6.0-rebound average, while Guinn leads the team with 42 assists.
With one milestone down, Tech head coach Kim Rosamond will be looking for a personal milestone of her own as she currently stands at 99 career victories. The next will make her the third Tech women's coach to win over a 100 games in program history.
The Golden Eagles will return home on Thursday for their OVC home opener as they host Eastern Illinois for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
