BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech sophomore Ally Beneke was recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
Beneke led an impressive slew of performances at the Catamount Classic over the weekend, exploding for a massive personal record in the high jump. Clearing a career-best height of 1.76 meters (5'9.25"), the sophomore delivered the league's top showing in the event this season and the second-best mark in the high jump in program history, trailing only Khemani Roberts' school-record leap in 2019 by just .01 meters (0.5").
The jump from the Smithville, Tenn. native also tied for sixth in the South Region, 20th in the East Qualifying Region, and 57th across all Division I this season.
With the honor, Beneke joined teammates Mattie Bush and Tyla Street among the Golden Eagles to take home weekly recognition from the OVC this season. Bush was named OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week, and Street was named OVC Female Freshman of the Week back on Apr. 9.
Two members of the Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team were recognized for their impressive performances over the past week, with Mattie Bush and Tyla Street each earning Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon. Distance runner Rylee Wells was honored as an OVC Female Freshman of the Week during the indoor season.
The Golden Eagles next head to Nashville for the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt, competing on Friday, May 2.
