Purple and gold continue 2022 outdoor season at UAB Spring Invite
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track and field team continues its 2022 season with its second straight week of competition, heading south for the UAB Spring Invite, spanning Friday, Apr. 1 and Saturday Apr. 2.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track and field team continues its 2022 season with its second straight week of competition, heading south for the UAB Spring Invite, spanning Friday, Apr. 1 and Saturday Apr. 2.
UAB Spring Invite Information
Apr. 1-2, 2022 – Located at the UAB Track & Field Complex in Birmingham, Ala. Friday's action will kick off with field events at 2:00 p.m. CT and continue with running events beginning at 5:30 p.m. Action will wrap up on Saturday, with both field and running events starting at 9:00 a.m.
What to Watch For
The Golden Eagles saw a number of student-athletes make their outdoor debuts at last week's Margaret Simmons Invitational and several returns produce improved marks from the past.
Junior Jalena Curbeam led the experienced group of the purple and gold, playing fifth in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump. Jadae Joseph competed in both events as well, collecting a top-10 finish in the triple jump, while Samaria Allen turned in the top showing for the Tech crew in the long jump.
Anya Akili put forth a top-15 showing in a huge field in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.72 seconds. Rahab Sawe delivered a personal record while winning her heat in the 1,500-meter run while Nyla Armand led the Golden Eagles in the 800-meter run.
Amara Nwajagu had a strong start to her outdoor career, placing seventh in the 400-meter dash with a lifetime best after completing the 200-meter dash with a PR. Diamond Rush also made the most of her first outdoor experience, earning PRs in the 400-meter hurdles (as well as a fifth-place finish) and the 400-meter dash.

The Golden Eagles compete next at the Flames Invitational, hosted by Lee University, in Cleveland, Tenn. on Friday, Apr. 8 and Saturday, Apr. 9.
