Golden Eagles finish day one of Black and Gold Invitational
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Only a few members of the Tennessee Tech track & field team competed on the first day of the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt Friday evening, but the Golden Eagles that were in action turned in a solid showing.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Only a few members of the Tennessee Tech track & field team competed on the first day of the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt Friday evening, but the Golden Eagles that were in action turned in a solid showing.
Four Tech sprinters competed in the 200m at the Vanderbilt Track & Field Complex, led by sophomore Lyn'Nikka Vance. The Monee, Ill. native placed 13th overall with a time of 25.02 to pace the purple and gold.
Not far behind, senior Ceirra Tate finished 16th with a time of 25.63. Rounding out the event for Tech was sophomore Anya Akili with a final time of 26.53 and freshman Cayla Johnson with a time of 28.29.
Junior long-distance runner Tina Cesnik captured a strong performance in the 1500m, ranking 11th with a final time of 4:50.53. Competing in the triple jump, Jalena Curbeam finished eighth with a distance of 10.93m.
Both Johnson and Akili also took part in the shot put, with Johnson turning in a personal-best distance of 10.82m and Akili registering a PR throw of 9.38m.
Day two action for the Black and Gold Invitational is scheduled to kick off Saturday at 10:00 a.m. CT with field events. The running events are slated for a 12:00 p.m. start.
