GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tennessee Tech's select group of track athletes got off to a great start at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday, racing in five of its seven scheduled events for the weekend.
"I thought we had a solid day," said head coach Wayne Angel. "We were able to get a lot of work in and determine what needs to be done moving forward."
The Golden Eagles' 4x400m relay squad of Na'Asha Robinson, Ceirra Tate, Khemani Roberts and D'Airrien Jackson placed eighth in the 46-team field with a time of 3:42.00. The four advance to Saturday evening's finals session.
Micayla Rennick put up a new school record of 4:20.92 in the 1500m run, placing 10th, and preceded that with a personal-best time of 2:09.37 in the 800m run.
D'Airrien Jackson also scored a top-15 finish in the 400m dash, placing 15th with a time of 53.90.
"I was very impressed with Micayla's double," said Angel. "She is setting herself up to have a phenomenal season. A 2:09 800m followed by a school record in the 1500 speaks volumes in terms of her potential on a national level. I'm very excited about this season. We are definitely moving in the right direction."
Tech wraps up the Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday with three relays. SEC Network + will live stream the meet during these windows (all three of Tech's events fall within these time frames):
