Golden Eagles kick off day one of the OVC Outdoor Championships with two events
The Tennessee Tech track and field team opened up Outdoor OVC Championship action on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Eagles started off tournament festivities with events of the heptathlon and 10,000-meter race.

OXFORD, Ala.—The Tennessee Tech track and field team opened up Outdoor OVC Championship action on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Eagles started off tournament festivities with events of the heptathlon and 10,000-meter race.
In the heptathlon, Eshe Robinson find herself currently ranked seventh with 2,561 points after four events. E. Robinson recorded a time of 15.63 in the 100-meter hurdles, a 1.55-meter high jump, a 10.14-meter shot put, and a time of 28.60 in the 200 meter. Meanwhile, teammate Sharnique Leonce is currently in tenth place with 2,412 points. She notched a 14.00 time in the 100-meter hurdles, a no height recorded in the high jump, a 9.55-meter shot put, and a time of 24.49 in the 200 meter.
Currently leading the pack in the heptathlon is Murray State's Jabreuna Brimlett with 3,128 points. E. Robinson and Leonce will complete the other three events of the heptathlon (long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run) on Friday morning.
"It was a tough day for Sharnique," head coach Wayne Angel said. "The heptathlon is an unforgiving event and one can ill afford any mistakes, especially not scoring in an event. It becomes an uphill climb from that point. I'm sure she will do her best to recover tomorrow and climb back into scoring contention. She is a warrior and her and Eshe' are battling hard. I am so proud of them."
Purity Murray represented the Purple and Gold in the 10,000-meter race. She placed 16th in a field of 20 participants with a time of 39:17.32. Southeast Missouri's Sydney O'Brien claimed the victory with a time of 37:24.44.
The Golden Eagles will continue their pursuit for the OVC Outdoor title on Friday at 9 a.m. at Chocolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
