Golden Eagles open home play with pair of doubleheaders
After last weekend was cut short due to inclement weather, the Tennessee Tech softball team comes home to host a pair of doubleheaders to open its 2012 home schedule. The Golden Eagles will face IPFW Tuesday and Belmont Thursday.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- After their final three games in the Buzz Classic were canceled due to storms last weekend, the Golden Eagles have returned home to make their 2012 debut at the Tech Softball Field with games against IPFW and Belmont.
IPFW (10-2) has won eight games in a row entering Tuesday's doubleheader in Cookeville. The Mastadons have dealt three shutouts this season and have held their opponents to two runs or fewer in eight of their 12 games. They will look to continue getting production from senior Courtney Cronin, who hit six doubles and a home run and drove in nine runs in IPFW's four games at the Marshall Invitational last week. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
On Thursday, the Golden Eagles (6-9) host future Ohio Valley Conference rival Belmont in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The Bruins wrap up their long stretch of road games with Thursday's twinbill before returning to Nashville for a six-game homestand.
