Golden Eagle men 10th, women 11th at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Senior John Greene led the Tennessee Tech's men's team with a 27th place individual finish, while senior Rebecca Cline was the top finisher for the Golden Eagle women's team Saturday at the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational. Eight Tech runners established new career-best times during the meet.

The Tech men placed 10th in an 11-team field, while the Golden Eagle women finished 11th in a gathering of 13 teams.

Greene covered the 8K course in 26:13.8, eclipsing his career-best for that distance by four seconds. Sterling Smith placed 44th overall as Tech's second finisher, running the route in 26:44. Placing third for Tech, freshman Daniel Williamson posted a personal best at 26:52.4 to finish 47th. Tech's seven-man lineup also included Brennan Huber, finishing 58th in 27:14.9, Matthew Bishop placing 68th in 27:31.9, Jordan Roth in 71st place with a career-best effort of 27:37.6, and Sam Lariviere in 75th place with a time of 28:03.2.

Tech was the only Ohio Valley Conference team in the 11-team field, which was won by Mississippi State. The Golden Eagles topped North Carolina A&T.

In the women's race, Mississippi State made it a clean sweep with the team title while Tech placed 11th ahead of Virginia Military Institute and North Carolina A&T.

For the Golden Eagles, all six runners who had previously competed in a 6K race broke their career-best times on the Charlotte layout, while the seventh entry raced the distance for the first time in her Tech career.

Cline broke her previous personal best by 35 seconds, finishing 46th overall in the time of 23:14.2. Yeshi Dohrmann was next for coach Tony Cox's team, placing 52nd in the time of 23:21.6. Third for Tech was Amelia McCoy in the time of 23:40.4 for 58th place. The lineup was rounded out by Peri Winborne in 61st place in 23:44.3, Meghan O'Donoghue n 74th place in 24:28.7, Claire Cashin in 80th in 25:36.2, and Elizabeth Mitchell with a time of 25:45.8 for 83rd place.

The next action for the Golden Eagle cross country teams is the Jacksonville State Invitational next Saturday (Oct. 5).
