Golden Eagles tripped up by New Mexico State in non-conference finale
The Tennessee Tech tennis team’s final non-conference clash of the spring swung New Mexico State’s direction, as the Aggies came to Cookeville and left town with a 4-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at Tech Tennis Courts.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team's final non-conference clash of the spring swung New Mexico State's direction, as the Aggies came to Cookeville and left town with a 4-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at Tech Tennis Courts.
Freshman Murilo Burckhardt was responsible for the lone Golden Eagle point behind a 7-6, 7-0 nod over Tobias Wallin in the No. 2 spot for Burckhardt's first solo triumph since Feb. 25 vs. Presbyterian. Two of the other three completed singles battles were also decided in straight sets, with the Aggies (9-12) picking up victories in both matchups.
Patrick Lohman topped Lukas Krause 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 position to go along with a Luca Fe D'Ostiani 6-2, 6-2 win against Adam Ward in the No. 6 spot to round out New Mexico State's straight-set attack.
The No. 3 solo clash went Roko Stipetic's way thanks to a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 decision over Paulo Ramos Martin.
The other two tangles did not finish. Alex Alvarez and Itay Feigin each claimed a set at the time the No. 1 affair was called, while Gustavo Campos earned a first-set win over Darek Kuczynski before Kuczynski led 2-1 in the second set at the time it went unfinished.
The Golden Eagles (3-10, 3-0 HL) saw their streak of four straight matches of seizing the doubles point go by the books after dropping two of the three tandem tussles. Tech was victorious in the top slot behind a Lucas Bitzer and Davids Spaks 6-4 victory against Roko Stipetic and Gustavo Campos, but the Aggies secured wins in No. 2 and No. 3.
Itay Feigin and Tobias Wallin edged Paulo Ramos Martin and Murilo Burckhardt 7-6 in the No. 2 position, while Patrick Lohman and Luca Fe D'Ostiani picked up a 6-4 nod in the No. 3 tilt to notch the doubles point and take the early lead in the match.
The Golden Eagles will jump back into Horizon League action, putting their perfect conference mark on the line in Friday's home finale against Tennessee State. First serve with the Tigers is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and admission to Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
