Bio

One of the most prolific quarterbacks in Tech football history, Bert Browne has an extensive history in coaching. The man who still holds one of the top passing seasons in Golden Eagle history will come in overseeing Tech's wide receivers.

"Bert has background in high school and college," Alexander said. "He was the offensive coordinator at West Georgia and at Holmes Junior College in Mississippi. He coached wide receivers for Roy Kidd at Eastern Kentucky. He played quarterback here and is a Tech guy who loves Tennessee Tech. He was the first quarterback here to throw for over 2,000 yards in a season.

"Bert also brings in an excellent recruiting background. He has strong ties in a lot of areas, well known not only in the state of Tennessee, but also in Georgia and the Mississippi junior colleges. That's going to be a huge help there."

Browne, most recently, was the head coach at Stewarts Creek High School and also held head coaching posts as Madison Central High in Richmond, Ky., Perry Central High in Hazard, Ky., and Coffee County High in Manchester.

As a player, Browne spent a season at Northeast Mississippi Junior College in 1986, then came to Cookeville and Tennessee Tech for three seasons between 1987 and 1990. During his tenure with the Golden Eagles, Browne set 16 school passing records, setting the stage for the rise of the Tennessee Tech quarterback as he paved the way for many of the biggest names in program history. A two-time Ohio Valley Conference player of the week selection, Browne was the first Tech QB to throw for 2,000 yards in a single season.

Browne joined the coaching ranks in 1991 as he was named the quarterback coach at Madison Central High in Richmond, Ky., the first of two prep stops there -- the latter being the head coach from 2010 to 2013. In 1993, he spent his first stint as a Tech assistant, serving as a student assistant quarterback coach. The next year, he became the quarterback coach at LaGrange (Ga.) High, then followed it up with a three-year stint at Coffee County High, one as an assistant and two as the head coach.

He returned to the collegiate level as he pursued his master's degree at Eastern Kentucky, coaching the wide receivers for Roy Kidd and his Colonels. After that season, Browne then became the offensive coordinator at Holmes Junior College for three seasons, before taking the same post at the University of West Georgia from 2003 to 2005 -- the final year as the assistant head coach.

Browne spent 2006 to 2009 as the head coach at Perry Central High, then returned to Madison Central through 2013. The next year saw his most recent collegiate stop until now as the wide receivers coach, recruiting coordinator and academic coordinator at Arkansas Tech. His next three stops were as assistants as he coached at East Jessamine High, Colquitt County High and Elbert County High, before he became the head coach in 2019 at Stewarts Creek High School.
