QB Bailey Fisher wins 2019 Robert Hill Johnson Award

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Robert Hill Johnson Award stands as Tennessee Tech football’s highest honor. Each season, it is awarded to the Golden Eagle player who makes the largest contribution to the team and is voted on by the student-athletes. With so many deserving candidates on the 2019 team, the players certainly had a wealth of players to choose from. As all the votes were tallied, sophomore quarterback Bailey Fisher was the overwhelming pick and deservedly so. Before the ball was snapped for the last time in 2019, the Clayton, Ga., native broke six single-season records and made quite a move up the career charts.

Tech football honors seniors, sees positives as campaign comes to a close

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech had 14 points on the board before Tennessee State even ran an offensive play. But as the game wore on the visiting Tigers surged back and a late punt sealed the game for TSU 37-27. But as the 2019 season comes to a close, a 6-6 record for the Golden Eagles and 3-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference, there are so many positives to take away. Tech had its most wins since the 2011 campaign. The Golden Eagles tied for the second-best turnaround in the Football Championship Subdivision as Tech, UT Martin and Southern Illinois all improved on last year’s tally with five more wins.

Golden Eagles look to send 2019 seniors out with a win

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Twenty-one Tennessee Tech football players will put on their uniforms for the last time on Saturday as the Golden Eagles close out the 2019 campaign against Tennessee State. But the tears aren’t being shed just yet nor the memories being recollected as there’s still plenty of business at hand for Tech in this 12th and final game of the season. Kickoff from Tucker Stadium is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Dylan Vazzano and Sam Brooks will handle play-by-play coverage on ESPN+ (subscription required), while Roger Ealey and Buddy Pearson will tackle radio duties on 98.5 KISS FM.

With Senior Day approaching, Fayne proud of program's progress

As Shannon Fayne puts on his Tennessee Tech uniform for the last time Saturday, it will be a bittersweet moment. He’s seen the tough times, the good times, failure and progress. Along with the 20 other guys who have stuck with the program through thick and thin who will be recognized on Saturday's Senior Day, the Tennessee State game is the culmination of everything they have worked for and tried to build. They’ve traveled around the country with each other, enduring long bus rides and hotel stays, as well as sweating through countless hours of practice on the Tucker Stadium turf. As their careers come to a close Saturday – the result against the visiting Tigers still to be determined – the class ends its four-year career with a 13-31 record. But the one that means the most to them is the 2019 one. A winning season on the line and a step in the right direction.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As Tennessee Tech hosts Jacksonville State on Saturday for the 89th annual Homecoming game, it’s also College Football’s 150th birthday and the Golden Eagles are celebrating in multiple ways. On the field, Tech will wear a throwback helmet design for the second year in a row. Last season, it was the 1980s Jim Ragland era that saw the cursive Tech design adorned on the helmet. This season, it is a throwback to the classic late 1960s and early 1970s helmet design. While the helmet then was gold with a black wing, the decal on this design is similar to the 2012 homage with the Purple and Gold color scheme on the white, while detailed and hewing closer to the classic retro design.

It was the worst of times. It was the best of times. Although the Dickensian attributes may seem a bit cliché, for the Tennessee Tech football team, the last four years have certainly seen its share of ups and downs. Senior linebacker Aderick Moore knows that much for sure. As he powers through his final campaign with the Golden Eagles, he’s trying to head the team into the positive side of the equation – the team’s 4-3 start this season already showing much improvement over the past two years.

Golden Eagles return home to take on UT Martin Saturday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Following last week’s 43-37 double-overtime loss to Football Championship Subdivision No. 23 Southeast Missouri, the loss was tough for the Tennessee Tech football team, but one couldn’t help but feel optimistic for the rest of the season. After all, the Golden Eagles had literally stood toe-to-toe with one of the favorites to win the Ohio Valley Conference championship and had a play here or there gone another way, could have seen the result come out the other way. Needless to say, the loss helped build confidence within the Golden Eagles. Through their work last season and this year to this point, Tech has shown itself to be a contender in the Ohio Valley, but its work is far, far from finished. The Golden Eagles will have to prove that this week as they host UT Martin Saturday night at Tucker Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The moment the ball is kicked off on Saturday, it’s a brand new start. Sure, the 3-1 start the Tennessee Tech football team has right now is fantastic, but as the Ohio Valley Conference schedule starts in earnest this weekend, that is what will determine the team’s postseason fate. The last time the Golden Eagles started 3-1 was 2011 – the year the Golden Eagles clinched a share of the OVC title with Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky (beating them both on their home fields) and earning the league’s automatic bid to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. But, make no mistake, every week is going to be a fight.

The game will be broadcast on 98.5 KISS FM with Roger Ealey and Dylan Vazzano providing the call, while the game will also be streamed online on ESPN3, with Brendan Reidy and Michael Harms handling those duties.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years since Tennessee Tech last faced Samford on the gridiron. It was a completely different scenario then – the Golden Eagles were 32 years removed since their previous Ohio Valley Conference championship (Tech later broke its drought four years later) and both teams were under the direction of new coaches (Watson Brown for the Golden Eagles facing long-time assistant Pat Sullivan across the way – who went on to become Samford’s all-time winningest head coach. Now, Dewayne Alexander enters his second year at the helm of the Tennessee Tech program, while a familiar foe comes into Tucker Stadium leading Samford as former Murray State skipper Chris Hatcher enters his fifth campaign as the Bulldogs’ top dog. Tech will open its 98th football campaign Saturday night at 6 p.m. from Tucker Stadium.

Senior DB Fayne looks to leave Golden Eagles with winning legacy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech senior defensive back Shannon Fayne knows the twilight of his collegiate career is drawing close. In his fourth season with the Golden Eagles, he’s seen highlights and low points, but now he aims to close out his career by building not just a legacy, but also a blueprint for future success for Tech football. And to do that, the senior from Nashville, Tenn., knows he has to help his team find ways to put notches in the win column. “We want to win,” Fayne said. “We, as a senior class, want to see just what we can leave behind for our teammates. You always want to leave a place better than you found it and that’s our biggest goal, to set the stage and set it off from there.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ninth place. It certainly wasn’t the place the Tennessee Tech football team wanted to be in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason polls as they were announced on Monday as part of the league’s Football Media Day. That said, head coach Dewayne Alexander and his players present – sophomore quarterback Bailey Fisher and senior defensive back Shannon Fayne – understood why, but stood determined to prove the naysayers wrong. It’s a new season and the process is still in the early phases, but Alexander was firm in that there are so many who have invested into the Tennessee Tech program and they were all set to produce dividends.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – If one listened to Tennessee Tech head coach Dewayne Alexander talk to his Golden Eagle players following Friday’s Spring Game at Tucker Stadium, they heard the veteran coach explain why the windshield was larger than the rear view mirror. To keep focused on what’s ahead more than what’s behind. After back-to-back 1-10 seasons and the transition from a coaching change, the focus is on the future of the Tech football program, and that’s what the 2019 spring practices were about. With the 15 sessions in the books, the inherent focus was to get the team ready to improve on what they started in the 2018 campaign and try to bring the Tech football program back to good graces.
