Vanlier, McCoin and King named to FCS All-American Team
Three Tennessee Tech football players have received All-America honors, including two on a Freshman All-America lineup. The honors were selected by college draft evaluator Josh Buchanan.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Three Tennessee Tech football players have
received All-America honors, including two on a Freshman
All-America lineup. The honors were selected by college draft
evaluator Josh Buchanan, who has previously been a contributor to
Phil Steele. In all, 11 Ohio Valley Conference players were named
to the TonySoftli.com FCS Freshman All-American Team, including
Golden Eagle rookies Brock McCoin and Jonathan King.
Junior Ladarius Vanlier was named to the same organization's
All-America second team. Vanlier was one of just four players in
the FCS with both a kickoff and punt return for a touchdown this
season and one of just five players nationally with multiple punt
return touchdowns (2). His three total returns for touchdowns was
tied for second nationally while his 14.4 yards/punt return average
ranked fourth in the FCS. Vanlier had a 79-yard punt return for a
score in a win over nationally-ranked Eastern Kentucky and a
72-yarder for a score against Indiana State while his kickoff
return touchdown was a 99-yarder against Murray State. This marks
his second All-American honor, as he was previously honored by the
Sports Network.
MCoin finished his first season ranked second on the team in
receiving with 43 catches for 517 yards and two touchdowns. He also
had nine rushes for 42 yards, and completed his only pass attempt
for a five-yard touchdown. Adding to his impressive rookie numbers,
the Livingston Academy product returned one punt for 36 yards.
King, meanwhile, led the OVC in punting with an average of 41.5
yards on 79 kicks, with a long of 63 yards and 28 of his kicks
downed inside the opponent 20-yard line.
