Golden Eagle baseball schedule features 31 home games in '09
The Tennessee Tech baseball team has an exciting schedule set
for 2009, including 31 home games, and an in-season tournament in
Charleston, S.C. hosted by The Citadel.
The action starts Feb. 20 with a four-game series against St.
Peters in Cookeville. The Golden Eagles will then hit the road for
a game at Middle Tennessee on Feb. 25 before heading to The Citadel
Memorial Challenge Feb. 27-March 1, where they will face The
Citadel, Marshall and Radford.
Tech will face four in-state rivals in its tough non-conference
schedule, with Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, Belmont and East
Tennessee. The Golden Eagles have a home-and-home scheduled with
ETSU, MTSU and Belmont, and play Tennessee in Knoxville on March
18. Tech went 6-0-1 against those teams in 2008, including a 9-7
win over Tennessee, only the second by a Golden Eagle team in the
last 26 years.
Toldeo, Valparaiso, Alabama A&M, Covenant and Georgia State
will all travel to Cookeville for non-conference match-ups with the
Golden Eagles. Tech will visit Western Carolina for a game on April
29, and Southern Mississippi for a three-game series to round out
its non-conference schedule.
Ohio Valley Conference play begins when Tech hosts Southeast
Missouri, March 21-22. The Golden Eagles are scheduled for a
three-game series with each of the eight other baseball-playing OVC
schools, including home series against Eastern Kentucky, UT Martin
and Jacksonville State in addition to Southeast Missouri.
Tech will face defending tournament champion Eastern Illinois on
the road, April 10-11, and also travel to Morehead State, Austin
Peay, and Murray State. The conference season wraps up in
Cookeville May 9-10, against league-power Jacksonville State, who
won the regular season and was the tournament’s No.1 seed in
2008.
The Golden Eagles’ three-game series against Southern Miss.,
May 14-16, rounds out the 55-game regular season schedule, before
the OVC tournament, May 20-24, in Paducah, Ky. The leagues’
top six teams advance to the double-elimination tournament, with
the champion advancing to the NCAA regionals May 28-31.
