COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the end of the 2025-26 academic year, the Tennessee Tech Department of Athletics celebrates another strong semester of classroom achievement as the 15 athletic programs combined for a cumulative 3.473 grade point average – the third-highest department-wide GPA in program history.
Even more impressive – this marked the 35th consecutive semester that Athletics' composite GPA has been above a 3.0, stretching all the way back to Spring 2009. This marks the third straight semester that all 15 teams had above a 3.0 GPA.
"We are proud of what our student-athletes have accomplished this season," said Director of Athletics Casey Fox. "Through their efforts in the classroom in addition to the work in their respective sports, these young men and women continue to set the bar higher and higher.
"This feat couldn't happen without the faculty and staff at Tennessee Tech guiding the way, as well as the hard work done by Dr. Leveda Birdwell and her Academic Support team of Dr. Samantha Bates, Virginia Lewis and Kara Phillips."
The Tennis team, fresh off of a Horizon League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, beat out the pack with a 3.84 GPA – the highest team GPA recorded by any program in department history.
Soccer finished second with a 3.707 mark – its 45th straight semester of surpassing 3.0 – while Women's Golf rounded out the top three with a 3.636 GPA.
Volleyball continues its department-leading stretch of achievement, extending its streak to 52 consecutive semesters – a span of 26 years – as the team had a 3.544. Soccer currently stands at 45 straight semesters, while Softball (3.52 this go-round) and Track and Field (3.43 this Spring) both have 44-semester streaks. Tennis is at 36 semesters, while Women's Cross Country (3.581) reaches 28 straight and Women's Golf 26 in a row.
Men's Basketball hit a program best as it recorded a 3.312 GPA – the team's highest ever mark. The great scores stretched across the rest of the department as Women's Basketball recorded a 3.536, Men's Cross Country 3.509, Men's Golf (3.345), Baseball 3.311, Beach Volleyball (3.298) and Football (3.084).
