Tech golfers tie for fourth at UTM Skyhawk Classic

Greyson Painter takes 12th place

BUCHANAN, Tenn. -- Senior Blake Garrison carded an even-par 72 Tuesday to lead the Tennessee Tech men's golf team on the final day of the Skyhawk Classic, and the Golden Eagles tied for fourth place in the team standings in the field of 16 teams.

The Golden Eagles will close out the fall portion of their schedule next Monday and Tuesday at the Austin Peay Invitational.
Senior Greyson Painter was Tech's top finisher overall, wrapping up play with a 76 Tuesday to finish in a tie for 12th place at 216 after opening the day in second place.

Central Arkansas shot a final round 281, the lowest score of the 54-hole tournament, and edged ahead of Murray State for the team title at 856. Murray State (862) was second, Jackson State (870) took third, while the Golden Eagles and Lipscomb tied for fourth at 879.

The second five included Tennessee State and Belmont (880) tied for sixth, Evansville (881) in eight place, UT Martin (882) ninth and a second UT Martin squad (891) in 10th place. Union (892), Morehead State (893), Lambuth (896), Missouri Baptist (899), Bethel College (909) and Southern Indiana (910) rounded out the field.

A second round 68 catapulted Painter into second place, but he wasn't able to hold that spot as every Golden Eagle except Garrison saw is score jump in the final round at the 6,685-yard, par 72 Paris Landing State Park course. Painter shots rounds of 72, 68 and 76.

Garrison carded rounds of 72 and 75 on Monday, and closed Tuesday with a 72 to place 22nd at 219. Josh Simer, who opened play Tuesday in a tie for fourth place after marking scores of 69 and 72 Monday, shot an 80 to slip to 31st place at 221. John Fox (76, 72, 78) was tied for 53rd place at 226, while Jake Heatherly was 58th at 76-74-78--228.

Jonathan Martin, playing on UT Martin's second group, won medalist honors with 72-68-70--210.
