Becky Fletcher, a former assistant coach at Tennessee Tech and assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn University, enters her second season as the head coach of Golden Eagle soccer.

“We found the perfect fit to lead the Golden Eagle soccer program,” said Mark Wilson, TTU Director of Athletics. “She is a person of outstanding character who is known as an excellent teacher, motivator and a person who will run a disciplined program. Those traits make her a perfect fit for Tennessee Tech.”

In her first season at Tech, Fletcher led the Golden Eagles to a 3-4-1 conference record, and their first Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearance since 2003.

Before coming to Tech, Fletcher spent five seasons with head coach Karen Hoppa at Auburn, where she was responsible for setting up the Tigers’ defense and working with the backs and holding mid-fielders, as well as scouting opponents.

“We are very dedicated to bringing championships back to Tennessee Tech,” Fletcher said. “The administration has everything in place to allow the program to go to the next level and experience new success.”

Fletcher was the assistant coach at Tennessee Tech from 1999-2001 where she was responsible for recruiting, coaching field players, administration and organizing the Golden Eagle soccer camp under former head coach Greg Stone. While at Tech, Fletcher earned her Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Lifetime Wellness.

During Fletcher’s tenure as a Golden Eagle assistant, the team was named as one of the most improved Division I soccer programs in 2000 and was ranked in the top 25 in shutout percentage for the 2001 season.

“Becky was at Tennessee Tech when we won two OVC championships, and she’s helped Auburn win championships,” Wilson said.

A native of Columbia, S.C., Fletcher was part of one of the winningest eras in Auburn soccer history. While on Hoppa’s staff, Fletcher helped the team to three SEC West Division Titles, four trips to the NCAA Tournament and a record of 58-34-11 (.617).

While at Auburn, Fletcher keyed on both the offensive and defensive strategies, first working with the offense before taking over the defensive side of the pitch in 2006. In her two seasons in charge of the defense, Auburn allowed just 33 regular-season goals in 37 matches (0.89 goals per game) and posted 16 shutouts.

Before joining the Auburn staff, Fletcher was head coach at her alma mater, Erskine College in South Carolina. She took on all coaching responsibilities during the 2002 season, as well as other functions such as public relations and fund raising.

A 1998 graduate of Erskine, Fletcher helped lead the team to its first conference title by scoring the game-winning goal in the championship game. A team captain her junior and senior seasons, Fletcher was also a two-time Conference Carolinas All-Tournament team member.
