Murray State spoils Tech women's Senior Night, clinches No. 5-seed in OVC tourney

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A back-and-forth battle to the end, the Tennessee Tech women fell on the short end of Saturday’s 68-67 loss to Murray State. Macey Turley scored 11 points in the final 10 minutes as she was 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from long range Katelyn Young tied the game with 45 seconds remaining as she grabbed her own rebound and got the second-chance bucket. Jordan Brock missed a jumper on the other end of the court, then Kesha Brady was called for a foul, sending Manna Mensah to the line with three seconds remaining.

Golden Eagle women look to close out regular season with a win over Murray State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team looks forward to both the regular-season finale on Saturday against Murray State, as well as next week’s Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships in Evansville, Ind., it’s also an opportunity for the Golden Eagles to look back and reflect on the senior members of the 2020-21 team and those wrapping up their Tech careers. Abby Buckner, Taylor Lamb and manager Blake Ledbetter will be honored following Saturday’s season finale against the Racers. The two players saw their Tech careers come to an end from injuries last year and were unable to compete this season. More on their role with the team this season and the adaptations they have made in their transition can be found here. Even though there’s a lot to celebrate on Saturday, there’s still a lot to be decided on the court. Tipoff against the Racers is scheduled for 5 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the radio call for 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will handle broadcast duties on ESPN+ (subscription required).

Leaving their mark: Buckner, Lamb end Tech careers as winners
Leaving their mark: Buckner, Lamb end Tech careers as winners

When Kim Rosamond was named head coach at Tennessee Tech on March 31, 2016, she understood one of the keys to restoring the program’s winning ways would be her staff’s ability to attract the state’s top players back to Cookeville. Rosamond had spent more than a decade coaching and recruiting up and down I-40, and she knew the state of Tennessee had long been a hotbed for high school girls basketball.  She also understood the importance of making a statement early on the recruiting trail. Abby Buckner and Taylor Lamb would be cornerstones to the new staff’s first two signing classes at Tennessee Tech, and those first signing classes would quickly put the Golden Eagles on the winning path. Both came from successful high school programs in Tennessee, and both were what Rosamond believed were the kind of “winners” the program needed.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – How things change in just a matter of time. The last time Tennessee Tech and Southeast Missouri faced off in women’s basketball, the Cookeville and Putnam County area was hardly 48 hours removed from a devastating tornado. A week later, the COVID-19 pandemic made its early moves into our normal day-to-day routine and things have hardly been the same since. Now, over nine months later, the two teams take each other again as Ohio Valley Conference action fills out the rest of the Golden Eagle slate. Tipoff Wednesday is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hooper Eblen Center.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – One game in the books and the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team won’t have much time to dwell on the past as the Golden Eagles open Ohio Valley Conference play on Sunday against Jacksonville State. Tipoff for the game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday. Roger Ealey will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will provide broadcast duties on ESPN+. Tech is coming off of a tough 76-65 loss on Friday to open the season at Chattanooga. It was an uncharacteristic performance, but it was also the team’s first game of the season after COVID protocols wiped out the first four games of the season.

After delays, Tech women open season Friday at Chattanooga

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a busy weekend for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team as it kicks off its golden anniversary season with a pair of games on Friday and Sunday. Up first, the Golden Eagles travel to Chattanooga on Friday to take on the Mocs at McKenzie Arena with opening tip slated for a 2 p.m. Central start. That game will be available on 106.1 The Eagle with Dylan Vazzano providing the radio call, while also streamed on ESPN+ with Chris Goforth and Todd Agne describing the action. Chattanooga will not allow fans outside of student-athlete families to attend through the end of December, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Hamilton County.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – With the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team getting set to kick off its season on November 25, the Ohio Valley Conference released its preseason projections and all-conference team on Friday, based on the voting of the league’s coaches and sports information contacts. The Golden Eagles were projected to finish fourth, in what could be a hotly-contested battle for the top five spots in the league. UT Martin, with 22 first-place votes, were tabbed as the preseason favorite, while Belmont and reigning OVC tournament champ Southeast Missouri were voted second and third. Following Tech in fourth, Eastern Illinois was in fifth. The rest of the order saw Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, SIUE and Tennessee State in succession.
