Kirin Kumar has joined the Tennessee Tech softball coaching staff as an assistant coach. Kumar previously coached at North Carolina and Tulsa and played collegiately at Georgia Tech. She most recently was an assistant coach at Western Kentucky in 2012, where she was on the Hilltopper staff with Bonnie Bynum.

Prior to her stint at WKU, Kumar coached at North Carolina for the 2011 season, assisting with the infielders as well as hitting. The Tar Heels finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 15-8 record, their highest ACC finish since 2008. North Carolina also reached the championship game of the ACC Tournament for the first time in 10 years, wrapping up a 34-21 season.

Prior to coaching in Chapel Hill, Kumar was an assistant at Tulsa from 2005-2010. During her stint with the Golden Hurricane, Kumar was in the dugout for Tulsa's first Conference USA regular season and tournament titles in 2006 as well as the program's first NCAA Regional appearance. Tulsa received an NCAA Regional at-large bid in 2008, and won the Conference USA regular season and tournament championship in 2009. During that season, the Golden Hurricane set 10 program records and reached the final of the NCAA Regional hosted by Oklahoma. Tulsa finished that season 40-17.

Kumar graduated from Georgia Tech in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. As a player, she was part of the Yellow Jackets' first ACC regular-season and tournament championships in 2002 and their first NCAA Regional, reaching the final game of that regional. Georgia Tech made the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons, winning the ACC Championship in her senior season of 2005. Kumar was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2005, hitting .500 in the tournament. She played in 251 games in her career at Georgia Tech, with her senior class graduating as the winningest class in program history.
