HIGH SCHOOL: As a senior at Soddy Daisy, Wood hit .357 with six home runs, nine doubles and 23 RBI. She was named to the all-district team and to the Georgia-Tennessee all-star team. Her team won both district and region championships. Wood also played for the Fury Fastpitch club team.

Tech softball ends season with losses at Jacksonville State

OXFORD, Ala. – They gave it their best effort, but the hits just weren’t coming on Friday as the Tennessee Tech softball team saw its season come to a close in a doubleheader sweep by Jacksonville State. The Golden Eagles (16-33, 7-15 Ohio Valley Conference) find themselves unable to catch up to Morehead State (8-12 OVC following getting swept at Eastern Illinois on Friday) for the eighth and final spot for next week’s OVC tournament in Oxford.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Taylor Waldrop found herself in an unusual situation during the beginning of the Ohio Valley Conference schedule. Injured, the senior Tennessee Tech pitcher could only just sit back and watch as her teammates took tough defeats in the first three weekends of the league slate, coming back to Cookeville with an 0-6 record in OVC play. That changed on Friday as Waldrop pitched her first career shutout over Tennessee State to give Tech its first league win, then again on Sunday as Waldrop held off Belmont on Sunday in a 3-0 victory, throwing her second straight shutout to increase her career total to the same number.

Tech softball stretches win streak to five, sweeps Rhode Island

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The ways the Tennessee Tech softball team got its wins on Tuesday may have been dramatic, but the only thing the Golden Eagles cared about was getting the sweep over Rhode Island. Tech stretched its winning streak to five games as the Golden Eagles beat the visiting Rams 2-1 in game one, then rallied for an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.

Sparks drives in seven, Hughes gets first win as Tech splits with Samford

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was Raegan Sparks’ day at the plate as she led the Tennessee Tech softball team to a split against Samford on Sunday afternoon as she went 4-for-7 with seven RBI and her fifth home run of the season. Kayla Hughes picked up her first win of the season in the day’s nightcap, pitching the complete game as she allowed four earned runs on 10 hits, striking out two in the Golden Eagles’ 9-5 win over the Bulldogs.

Rain shortens Tech's chances in last day at Chattanooga Challenge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The threat of rain permeated the day Saturday, but it ended up costing Tech as the Golden Eagles started to build momentum against Sacred Heart as the game was called after posting a four-spot on the scoreboard, falling 10-4 in five innings to close out play in the Chattanooga Challenge. Tech (2-7) also dropped the day’s first game against Indiana State 7-4.
