Bio

In 2014 (Junior): Angi played in 57 games, starting in 57 for the Golden Eagles…one of six players to start in all 27 conference games…named to the All-OVC Second Team…finished second on the team with a .294 batting average, going 52-for-177…led the club with eight home runs and 38 RBI out of the leadoff spot…led the Golden Eagles with 12 stolen bases and was caught just once…made just two errors all season long…second on the team with a .475 slugging percentage…hit .308 during conference play, drilling three home runs and 18 RBI…had a season-long 17-game hitting streak from Mar. 22 to Apr. 6…went 4-for-11 with two home runs and seven RBI in the OVC Tournament…hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth in Tech’s dramatic comeback win over No. 1 Jacksonville State in the OVC Tournament on May 9…homered and drove in four, including the game-winning two-run single in an elimination game victory over UT Martin on May 8…smacked a home run and drove in two in a win over Morehead State in the regular season finale on May 4…doubled and scored a run in a victory against Morehead State on May 3…had four straight multi-hit games from Apr. 6-12, going 9-for-15…reached base three times with two hits and an RBI against Murray State on Apr. 5…doubled as part of a 2-for-4 showing with a run scored and an RBI in a 10-2 win over Eastern Illinois on Mar. 23…went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in against Jacksonville State on Mar. 16…tripled and drove in a pair against Big Ten Purdue on Mar. 7…reached base three times as part of a 2-for-3 performance against East Carolina on Mar. 1…opened the season with a home run and two RBI against Louisiana-Monroe on Feb. 7.  

In 2013 (Sophomore): Angi played in 46 games, starting in 44 of them for the Golden Eagles…tied for the team lead with four home runs…second on the Golden Eagles with 23 runs scored…led the team with a .415 slugging percentage…collected 25 hits in 106 at-bats…hit five doubles and one triple…fourth on the team with 19 RBI’s…one of five players with a 1.000 fielding percentage…went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI’s in a win against LIU Brooklyn on Mar. 9…reached base twice with two runs driven in and two runs scored in a win against Providence on Mar. 10…homered and knocked in two in a win against Thomas University on Mar. 13…went 2-for-3 against Lipscomb on Mar. 20…collected two hits including a double in a win against Eastern Kentucky on Mar. 29…homered and drove in four runs in a win against Southeast Missouri on Apr. 7…went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI’s against Austin Peay on Apr. 16…picked up two hits, two stolen bases, and scored two runs  in a win against Tennessee State on Apr. 28.

In 2012 (Freshman): Angi started in all 59 games in which she played for the Golden Eagles...at 139 at bats she made 28 hits and 13 runs including one home run landing her a batting average of .201 and a slugging percentage of .281... had the third highest number of RBIs for the team at 20 and the second highest number of doubles for the team at eight... had 39 total bases including three stolen bases out of four attempts... contributed to five assists and 56 putouts.

High School: Angi played both outfield and catcher as a member of the Waipahu High School team under coach John Funa Kapihe...also ran the hurdles and 4x100 on the track team...named to 1st team White division for her efforts on the field her senior year.

Personal: Angi Aya Sakamoto is the daughter of David Sakamoto and Chong Suk of Waipahu, Hawaii...birthday is September 3, 1993...five times named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll...twice named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll...majoring in Sociology - Criminal Justice.
