Bio
Injuries have severely limited Yianni's opportunities to get
onto the court for the Golden Eagles... in four seasons, he has
managed just 14 combined matches, and has been effective with a 7-0
career record in doubles play and a 4-3 singles record...still
lends his strong, unwavering support to his teammates...won the
prestigious Johnny Donnelly Maverick Award as a redshirt freshman,
a testament to his leadership qualities and contributions to the
team...an ultimate team player, he has continued to support the
team from the sidelines during every match and worked as hard as
anybody during practices when he's able.
AT TECH -- In Fall 2011 (Junior): Yianni
did not see any match competition in the 2011 fall tourney
schedule.
In 2010-11 (Sophomore): Still recovering from ankle
surgery, Yianni did not see any action in the 2010 fall
season...was finally available late in the spring season and was
able to get onto the court for one match...posted a 6-3, 6-4
singles victory in the No. 6 position and also teamed with Josh
Girling to claim an 8-2 win in doubles to help the Golden Eagles
roll to a victory over Belmont.
In 2009-10 (Freshman): Yianni sat out the spring season
due to an ongoing ankle ingury...after a year-long wait to hit the
courts, Yianni has a solid beginning during the fall
tournaments...went 3-3 in singles play and 6-0 in doubles play
while teaming with Lloyd Harris...opened his career with three
singles losses then rebounded to win his last three...unbeaten in
doubles competition in the fall.
In 2008-09 (Redshirt/Freshman): Sat out of action in his
first season on Cookeville...was thought of so highly that he
captured the Johnny Donnelly Maverick Award for his determination
and inspiration, despite not competing.
Before Tech: Yianni trained in Sydney, Australia, with a
French coach, Ludovic Catherine... since completing school in 2005,
he trained full time, reaching a ranking in the top 500 in
Australia playing open graded tournaments... he graduated from
school at St. Andrews Cathedral School.. was in the top four
percent of the state New South Wales, and in the top 10 of his
school.
Personal: Yianni Mikael Doropoulos is the son of Michael Doropoulos and Eugenia Raskopoulos of Sydney, Australia... one sister - Anthea...born on December 3, 1987... major is mechanical engineering.
