Mario Gutierrez

Bio

Mario was a regular in the Golden Eagle lineup the past two seasons and figures to earn considerable playing time in 2009-2010 in the second tier of the lineup...as a junior, he will be one of the team's most experienced players and will provide leadership.

At Tech
In 2009-10 (Junior): Opened the tournament schedule with five losses before rebounding to win his final four matches and post a 4-5 record in singles...went 5-3 in doubles events.

In 2008-09 (Sophomore): Mario went 6-14 in singles play overall, including a 3-3 record against conference rivals...played four matches at No. 5 and all the rest at the No. 6 spot...was 3-13 overall in doubles play, teaming with four different partners.

In 2007-08 (Freshman): Mario played in some tough matches during his first season with the Golden Eagles... picked up hard fought wins at No. 6 singles and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles...tallied 14 singles wins while going 6-6 in doubles...played in the singles lineup during the OVC Tournament.

Before Tech: Mario attended Ies El Palo High School of Malaga, Spain...coached by Gabriel Haro and Jose Carlos Lacambra and represented his club many times in team tournamens...helped team make it to the regionals many times and twice made it through to the national championships...was the No. 1 tennis player in Malaga and third in his region and nationally ranked.
