Deontay Wilson was one of the top defensive players in his region the past two years, posting more than 200 tackles while leading Trussville High School. As a junior, he had 111 total tackles with 10 tackles-for-loss, three fumbles forced and four passes defended. In 2014 as a senior, despite drawing loads of attention from opponents, he managed 93 total tackles with two tackles-for-loss. He had one interception, two fumbles forced and returned one fumble 102 yards for a touchdown. He was named the 2014 Exterminator of the Year by one Birmingham media, and was a 2013 Class 6A second-team selection.

With Eastern Kentucky up 30-27 in overtime, the Tennessee Tech football team took advantage of a personal foul call against the Colonels to get a first down, then Michael Birdsong threw a four-yard strike to the tight end Carling in the left corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown, 33-30 in favor of the Golden Eagles.

MARTIN, Tenn. – With 68 seconds left in the game, Tennessee Tech trailed by one possession, a deficit that was certainly within reach if the right things fell in place.
