One year on the Tech roster as a redshirt was enough to allow Johnnie to exhibit his skills and gain the confidence in the coaching staff to vault him into a starting role at free safety when he steps onto the field for the start of his career...was a standout in fall drills on the Scott team, and continued to shine all spring...a competitive player who is a very effective tackler....tough and smart...has a great physical presence...had the chance to learn the system and develop his skills under the guidance of veteran all-OVC safety Marty Jones...a good hitter....continuing to improve his lateral quickness...fits into the system perfectly and should emerge among the tackle leaders as soon as he begins playing.

AT TECH (IN 2014): Spent the 2014 season on the Tech roster in a redshirt role, working with the scout teams.

HIGH SCHOOL:  A four-year starter at safety at Athens (Ala.) High School under Coach Allen Creasy, Johnnie made nearly 400 career tackles...three-time team MVP...first-team all-state selection and Athens News Courier Player of the Year his senior year... named to all-county defensive team during his junior year...topped 100 tackles with three forced fumbles as a freshman, and topped 100 tackles with six interceptions as a sophomore...junior year netted more than 80 total tackles and six forced fumbles on defense, and seven offensive touchdowns...as a senior, had more than 80 tackles with three interceptions, eight fumbles forced and six offensive TDs... his team went to the quarterfinals of the 5A playoffs his senior year... he also played varsity basketball for three years... posted a 3.3 GPA.
