COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As preseason comes to an end, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team invites fans to come on out to the Purple and Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 3 p.m.
Preseason is the three weeks of the season where the team solely has volleyball to focus on. A bulk of the learning and refreshing of skills occurs but the team also has an opportunity to get to know each other better and become united on a common goal.
"It's been a refreshing experience," said senior Natalie Penrod. "The atmosphere, new coaching staff and the team charisma have turned a page in such a positive direction. Every time we step on the court, we're trying to get better. Every time we have a chance in practice or in a game, the goal is to get better. As a team, we want to prove to the OVC and Tennessee Tech University that we are better than what we have been."
The perfect opportunity for fans to see all the hard work begin to come together will be Saturday afternoon at the Purple and Gold Scrimmage, to be held in the Eblen Center beginning at 3 p.m.
"During the preseason, we've shown a lot of strengths offensively and defensively," Penrod said. "We have four brand new faces that all bring something special to the game. We're excited to let the fans see that. We've all been working so hard. You can not only see the change, but feel the change the program has taken. We're all looking forward to coming out strong as a team and collectively being able to bring home what this program has been looking toward for so long, and that's another OVC Championship."
The Golden Eagles will continue to work as they head toward their first regular season games next weekend at the Winthrop Invitational. Tech will take on the host Eagles at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, for the first action of the season.
Following Saturday's scrimmage, the next time Tech fans will be able to see the volleyball team in action at home will be more than a month into the season, Sept. 27-28, when the Golden Eagles host Murray State and Austin Peay in the first Ohio Valley Conference matches of the season.
Admission to the scrimmage Saturday, and all regular season home matches in Eblen Center, is free.
