COOKEVILLE, Tenn – It is that time of year again - the Tennessee Tech volleyball team is reporting for their first season under new head coach Dave Zelenock. With 14 athletes reporting - three seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen - the gym is about to get very noisy.
Report day Thursday was filled with meetings for the girls. They met with Mandy Thatcher, TTU Coordinator of Compliance, who discussed the importance of following NCAA rules as well as Tech's athletic code. Next were the team meeting and the staff introductions, followed by the receiving of equipment and physicals for the rookies.
Preseason will be broken down into three phases broken up by days off. The final day of preseason will feature the Purple and Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 24, which will be open to the public.
A typical preseason day will include a 7 a.m. breakfast call, followed by a two-and-a-half hour practice, ice baths, lunch, another two and a half hour practice, more ice baths, dinner, and a chalk talk to discuss the teams offensive and defensive systems.
The Golden Eagles look to prepare for their opening game at Winthrop Invitation against the host Eagles at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.
