Kenline, Lang reap weekly awards from conference
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech senior Kappy Lang has been
selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Setter of the Week for the
sixth time this season, while junior teammate Katie Kenline is the
league's Defensive Player of the Week in voting announced
Monday.
The honors for the two Indiana products come on the heels of Tech's
road sweep over the weekend with 3-0 victories at both Tennessee
State and Austin Peay that lifted the Golden Eagles into a tie for
first place in the OVC.
Lang, from Muncie, Ind., dished out 79 assists in the two matches,
getting 35 on Friday at TSU and followed that with 44 in the three
sets at Austin Peay. Lang also chipped in with some timely offense,
with two kills on the weekend while not committing an error for a
.333 hitting percentage.
It marked the sixth time in nine weeks that Lang has received the
honor. She leads the OVC in assists per game, and earlier this year
became Tech's all-time leader in assists.
Kenline, from Ossian, Ind., won her second Defensive Player of the
Week award as she tallied 11 digs in the win at Tennessee State and
followed that up with a career-high 33 in the sweep at Austin Peay.
She averaged 11 digs per set against APSU, including recording 13
in the first set. She ranks second in the OVC in digs per game.
The OVC Offensive Player of the Week award went ot Aubrey
Dondlinger of Southeast Missouri.
The Golden Eagles hosts Morehead State Friday night at 7 p.m. in
Eblen Center in a showdown between the two first-place teams in the
conference.
