MURRAY, Ky. - After clinching a share of the OVC championship on
Friday night, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team couldn't maintain
its momentum Saturday and lost a 3-0 match at Murray State to wrap
up the regular season.
Tech's loss, coupled with a win by Morehead State in their season
finale, left the two teams tied for the 2008 conference crown. By
virtue of the league's tiebreaker, Tech will be the No. 1 seed and
host the six-team OVC tournament Thursday-Saturday in Eblen
Center.
The Golden Eagles put up a fight in the first set before falling,
25-23, but couldn't muster much offense in the next two sets.
Murray State won 25-13 in set two and claimed the match with a
25-16 win in the third set.
Logan Su led Murray State with 14 kills and a .440 hitting mark and
Kayleah Sauer topped the MSU defensive effort with 19 digs.
The Golden Eagles were led by Caitlin Bullock's 10 kills while Leah
Meffert had seven. Katie Keline had 15 digs on the back row, and
Kappy Lang added 10 digs and 27 assists.
Tech wrapped up the regular season with a 17-11 oveall record and a
14-4 mark in the conference. It is Tech's first regular season
championship in 25 years.
