COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- A couple of straight set victories in singles play and a win at No. 2 doubles were the highlights of the day for Tennessee Tech, but it wasn't enough to earn the win as the Golden Eagles were downed by Murray State, 5-2, in Ohio Valley Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon.
The No. 2 doubles tandem of Leydi Zora and Katie Barnhill
claimed an 8-6 victory over Lyndsay Ottosen and Cassidy Cunitz.
Murray State posted wins at the other two doubles matches to take a
1-0 lead in the match. At No. 1, Angela McGahee and Ashley Canty
took an 8-5 win from Victoria Cran and Frederike Kahl. At the No. 3
spot, Alexis Webb and Lindsey Wiseman won by an 8-4 count over
Laura Porras and Diana Woodcock.
Woodcock got one of Tech's singles victories, downing Webb, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2. The other Golden Eagle point came from Porras, with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5 over Wiseman.
Murray State claimed the other four singles points. At No. 1, McGahee was pushed to the limit by Zora before posting a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win. Cunitz downed Kahl, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 and Canty took a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cran at No. 4. The No. 6 match went to Ottosen, 6-3, 6-0, over Barnhill to close the day's action.
The Golden Eagles will play Tuesday at Morehead State, then host
Tennessee State Friday at 1 p.m.
