KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- After carding a first-round 76, senior Katherine Bell is tied for 22nd and has the Tennessee Tech women's golf team in 23rd place on day one of the Kiawah Island Classic in South Carolina.
Only two out of the 172 players in the 32-team tournament, hosted by College of Charleston, shot under par on Sunday. The Golden Eagles shot a combined 324 and must improve on Monday to play in the top flight of 18 teams on Tuesday.
Freshman Megan Williamson followed Bell, carding an 80 on the day, followed by Amber Shepherd's 81, Allison Geer's 87 and Madalyn Everts 88. Tech holds a two-stroke lead over Bucknell and is just eight strokes out of 16th place.
Host College of Charleston leads the pack by nine strokes after shooting a combined 292 on day one. A recap after Monday's action will be posted on TTUSports.com.
