GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women’s golf
team played the first round of its last tournament of the fall
schedule Monday, closing the day tied for eighth at the UAB Beach
Blast. The tournament is being played at the Peninsula Golf and
Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Tech is tied for eighth place with West Florida, recording a 335
first round team total. Southern Mississippi’s 305 has that
Golden Eagle squad firmly in first place, 12 shot ahead of
second-place UAB (317). Houston Baptist is one shot back at 318 for
third place, while Austin Peay and Embry-Riddle are tied for fourth
place at 321.
Sam Houston (322) is sixth, followed by Belmont (330), and Tech
and West Florida (335).
The Golden Eagles were led on Monday by freshman Megan Williamson
and senior Katherine Bell, each shooting an 82 to put them in a tie
for 27th place. Junior Amber Shepherd is tied for
35th place with an 84 while Madalyn Everts is
44th with an 87. The fifth player in the Tech lineup,
freshman Katya Hoffman, is in 53rd place after scoring a
95.
Tech has two players competing individually. Freshman Allison Geer
is 42nd with an 86, while senior Amanda Randolph is
48th after shooting 90.
Southern Mississippi has the top three individuals on the
leaderboard, topped by Juliana Herrera with a two-over 74.
The second round tees off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
