COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- A lineup loaded with youth will hit the links Monday and Tuesday as the Tennessee Tech women's golf team opens the fall portion of the 2010-11 season at the Drake Creek Invitational in Paducah, Ky.
Head coach Brandy Stout's five-player lineup will feature one senior, two sophomores and two freshmen. Tech will also send three players to compete individually, including one senior and two more freshmen.
"We're a very young team," Stout said. "We have four freshmen and two sophomores and it will be fun watching them play. We have two experienced seniors in Carley Rhyne and Lindsay Spradlen, and they're veterans with a lot of experience. We're looking forward to this season."
Amanda Randolph, a sophomore from Cookeville, will play in the No. 1 position for Tech this weekend. She played in nine tournaments last year and was fourth on the team with an 82.3 average.
Right behind her will be a pair of first-year players as freshmen Amber Shepherd and Brandy VanEtten fill the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Sophomore Katherine Bell, who played in six tournaments as a freshman, is in the No. 4 spot. She posted an 82.7 average last season.
One of the team's two seniors, Carley Rhyne from Powell, Tenn., will play in the fifth spot in Tech's lineup. Rhyne had the low average last year among the team's returnees, playing in eight tournaments and posting an 81.5 stroke average.
Entered as individuals will be senior Lindsay Spradlen, a senior from Powell, and freshmen Erika Wann and Katy Beth Glover.
After a practice round at the course Sunday, the tournament calls for 36 holes on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.
