Brown brought a wealth of basketball experience to the Golden Eagle coaching staff, where she has been working primarily with the guards the past two years, including two-time MVP and two-time all-OVC selection Tacarra Hayes.

A four-year standout at North Carolina, Brown played four seasons in the WNBA before beginning her coaching career. Shellie Greenman, a former assistant at Virginia Tech University, is in her first season as a member of Tennessee Tech's award-winning women's basketball coaching staff. Greenman joined Sytia Messer's staff in June 2011

Greenman has over 20 years coaching experience at the Division I level, and will handle the bulk of the staff’s recruiting efforts and assist in guard play. She will also assist in game preparation.

Prior to coming to Tennessee Tech, Greenman spent seven years on the Virginia Tech staff, serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator from 2004 through 2011.

Her role as recruiting coordinator did not mark her first opportunity with the Hokies however, as Virginia Tech offered her an assistant coaching opportunity following her graduation from Emory and Henry College with a B.A. in Health and Physical Education. She spent five years in the assistant coaching position on Carol Alfano’s staff, earning her M.S. in Sports Administration in the process.

In the time between her stints at Virginia Tech, Greenman worked at Western Carolina under head coach Gary Peters from 1993-96 as an assistant coach, and returned in 2000 for another four-year run with the Catamounts as their associate head coach under Beth Dunkenberger. Greenman has also completed coaching stints at Miami (Ohio) University and UT Chattanooga. She has the impressive distinction of having recruited a player who was named the Conference Rookie of the Year at each of the three schools.

Messer was familiar with Greenman’s coaching talents after facing her when the two were rivals at ACC schools.

“I first encountered Shellie as a coach when I was coaching at Georgia Tech and she was at Virginia Tech. I coached against her for five years and I observed that Virginia Tech teams were always very prepared and had strong game plans, and I know she was highly involved in that,” Messer said. “I also saw her ability as a recruiting coordinator, as she was able to sign some of the best players in the South.”

In her days as a player, Greenman was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Emory and Henry, leading her team to the ODAC championship in 1988 and earning All-Tournament team honors.

Daphne Mitchell, who played four seasons at Georgia Tech and two seasons professionally in Europe, is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team. Third-year Golden Eagle head coach Sytia Messer, who coached Mitchell at Georgia Tech, announced the addition to her staff.

"We're excited about Daphne joining our staff," Messer said. "Daphne is an experienced player who has competed at the highest level, both in the ACC and professionally. She has very strong organizational skills and a hunger to display her experience and her knowledge to our players."

A native of East Point, Ga., she was a standout student and athlete at Woodward Academy where she led her team to back-to-back region championships and was named an honorable mention all-American. She was a four-year letterwinner for the Yellow Jackets, playing in 102 games in her career with 13 starts. In addition to her time on the court, she was active off the court in community activities and was recipient of one of the ACC Top Six for Service honors.

"As a former post coach at Georgia Tech, I coached Daphne one-on-one each day for four years," Messer said. "Because of the work ethic she had, both on and off the court, I knew one day I'd want to hire her on my staff.

Mitchell joins the Tech staff after playing two years of professional basketball in Europe. Recently, Mitchell played forward and center for the Clube Desportivo Torres Novas team in Portugal. She also played for the Codigalco Carmelitas in Spain, where the 6-foot-1 center averaged eight points and six rebounds. Mitchell's professional career also included a team in Finland, where she averaged 15 points and seven rebounds, and a team in Ecuador, where she averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Off the court, Mitchell has been involved in a variety of projects including serving as a camp counselor for the MaChelle Joseph Specialty Camps. As a counselor, Mitchell helped organize daily activities and coached on-site competitions.

Mitchell, 25, received her degree in business management from Georgia Tech in 2008.
