Women's basketball hosts Lee University in exhibition match
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The excitement of a new coach and a new system is spreading throughout campus, and the Golden Eagles get their first chance to spread their wings in an exhibition contest Monday night. The opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles, who fell shy in the Ohio Valley Conference championship last season boasting an 11-5 OVC and 17-17 overall record, are ready to hit the floor. Tech was picked to finish first in the East division in the OVC preseason poll.
Lee University will be the first test for new head coach Jim Davis and his staff. Along with the coaching staff, seven newcomers will make their debut in purple and gold. The game against Lee will be the first of a seven-game homestand, giving the Golden Eagles ample time to gain their footing.
Tech returns 45 percent of its offense, including the "Alabama Assassins", seniors Jala Harris, Kellie Cook and Kylie Cook. Harris averaged 15.2 points per game, with the Cooks adding 10 ppg between the two. Junior Molly Heady returns with a 8.2 ppg average, and 4.6 rebounds per game.
