Tennessee Tech begins road trip Saturday at Murray State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Riding high after its second win in a row, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will look to make it three straight Saturday evening as the Golden Eagles travel to Murray State for the second game of an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader.

The opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m., with the Tech men's game preceding the women's game at 5 p.m.

The Golden Eagles seem to be finding their groove as they have come out victorious in their last two games against Morehead State and Tennessee State. Against the latter, senior Tacarra Hayes and sophomore Jala Harris provided a steady one-two punch against the Tigers as they combined for 49 of TTU's 80 total points.

For their efforts against the Eagles and Tigers, Hayes and Harris were both honored by the OVC, as Hayes was named the OVC Player of the Week, while Harris garnered OVC Newcomer of the Week.

Since joining the Golden Eagles, Harris has notched 114 points and 11 3-point field goals in just seven games. Hayes meanwhile, has continued her torrid pace on the scoreboard, as she has poured in a team-leading 298 points, bringing her career total to 1,506 points, which ranks 11th all-time at Tech.

Murray State (4-11, 1-3 OVC) is currently on a three-game skid, having lost to Eastern Illinois, Austin Peay and most recently, Eastern Kentucky 62-61 at home.

Mariah Robinson leads the Racers on offense with 219 points, averaging 14.6 points per game, while newcomer Erica Burgess has followed close behind with 216, averaging 14.4 points per game. Kayla Lowe has averaged 10.5 points per game as well, and a team-leading 4.7 rebounds per contest.

Saturday's game will be streamed across the web at ovcsports.tv.

Season tickets for 2011-12 season are still on sale and still a good value and can be purchased at the Athletic Ticket Office in Eblen Center, or by calling (931) 372-3940.
