Golden Eagles set to take on Eastern Illinois
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will play its second game in three nights on Monday as the Golden Eagles make the trip to Charleston, Ill., for a match-up against the Eastern Illinois Panthers. Game time for the OVC battle is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Tech is coming off a hard-fought, 61-56, loss at Southeast Missouri. After digging themselves a 17-point deficit late in the first half, the Golden Eagles came back to tie the game late in the second period before the Redhawks pulled away in the closing minutes.
TTU (6-6, 1-1 OVC) has the tough task of winning at Eastern Illinois (6-8, 2-1 OVC) on Monday, something that the Golden Eagles have not been able to accomplish since the 2005-06 season. EIU, picked to finish fourth in the league according to the OVC preseason poll, has won the last seven contests against Tech.
The Panthers are coming off of a convincing, 85-48, victory over Jacksonville State on Saturday to move to 2-1 in conference play. EIU freshman Ta'Kenya Nixon scored 21 points in the victory.
The Golden Eagles will turn to sophomores Tacarra Hayes, Krystal Stirrup and Rachel Glidden to try and end its losing skid against the Panthers. Hayes is the second leading scorer in the OVC at 14.5 points per game, while Stirrup and Glidden have both been making major contributions of late. Stirrup is averaging 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game over her last two contests, while Glidden is averaging 10.0 points and 3.5 3-pointers per game during that stretch.
