MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2011 Tennessee Tech softball season has come to an end as the Golden Eagles fell to UT Martin 1-0, while Murray State defeated Jacksonville State 7-5 to claim the final spot of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
With its 1-0 loss to UT Martin, Tech finished its season with a 22-26 record and a 13-16 mark in OVC play.
Game three of the series pitted the game one starters Holly Thomas and Amanda Brandenburg against each other for the second time in as many days, but this time it was Brandenburg who came out on top as she kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard.
The game's lone run came in the bottom of the third as Brandenburg helped her cause with an RBI-single to centerfield.
The pitcher's dual continued for the rest of the game as both teams combined for one hit and four base runners through the final four innings.
Brandenburg improved to 13-3 as she gave up just four hits in her seven-inning shutout. Thomas, who fell to 16-9, gave up one run on two hits while striking out four.
