Tech plays at Chattanooga before beginning OVC slate at Austin Peay

Weekly Game Notes

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off a tough week, the Tennessee Tech softball team will look to return to its winning ways beginning Tuesday when the Golden Eagles travel to UT Chattanooga. Following that contest, TTU will have three days off before starting OVC play at Austin Peay on Saturday.

Tech’s overall record is 8-14 this season.

The Golden Eagle offense has averaged just 1.4 runs per game over the team’s last 11 contests. However, Tech has the capability to put up big run totals as well, as the Golden Eagles have scored 11 runs in a game twice this season.

Junior Callie Schmidt was a bright spot in a dim week for the Golden Eagles as she hit two home runs to bring her team-leading season total to five. Schmidt’s five homers are the second most of any player in the OVC so far this season.

Action on Tuesday against the Mocs begins at 4 p.m. when the Golden Eagles will seek to defeat Chattanooga for the second time in as many years. Tech beat UTC, 3-1, early last season to shrink the Mocs advantage in the all-time series to 6-4. So far this season, Chattanooga has a 15-7 record.

Tech’s weekend series against Austin Peay begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. before the two teams play a single game on Sunday at noon.

The Golden Eagles have played Austin Peay 75 times in the program’s history – the second most games played against any opponent. The only team that Tech has played more is Morehead State (78 games).

TTU has owned the all-time series between the two teams, compiling a 58-17 record against the Lady Govs. The Golden Eagles have been especially dominant during head coach Tory Acheson’s reign. Acheson is 29-1 all-time versus Austin Peay and has won his last 17 games.

The Golden Eagles open up conference play against Austin Peay for the first time since the 2004 season when TTU won, 8-0. Over the team’s last 10 OVC openers, Tech has compiled an 8-2 record.

Picked to finish last in the OVC preseason poll, the Lady Govs are 5-14 this season and 1-4 over their last five contests.
