Cline leads women, Taylor paces men's team at Evansville
Freshman Rebecca Cline was the top finisher Saturday for the Tech women's cross country team while senior Sam Taylor led the men's team at the Evansville Invitatational.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Freshman Rebecca Cline was the top finisher Saturday for the Tennessee Tech women's cross country team while senior Sam Taylor led the men's team at the Evansville Invitational. The Tech women placed sixth in the team standings among 11 schools, while the Golden Eagle men were eight among 13 squads in the field.
For the second week in a row, all eleven of the Tech women
running set career-best times. Five of the men's runners also
set personal bests.
Cline covered the 5K course in 19:13.24 for her 17th place showing,
a career-best for the first-year Golden Eagle from Spring
Hill. Coming in not far behind was freshman Peri Winborne of
Knoxville. Her time of 19:30.40 easily shattered her former
personal-best time set last week and placed her 26th of the field
of 97 runners. Sophomore Beth Miller ran a solid 20:00.80 and
finished 40th. Leah Bradley, a junior from McDonough, Ga.,
came in just behind with a time of 20:06.97 and came in 42nd.
Freshman Amelia McCoy of Crossville finished with 20:09.29 on the
clock and placed 43rd.
A pair of Golden Eagle runners finished close behind. Junior Traci Jones from Aiken, S.C. clocked in a time of 20:29.76 to complete the race 49th. Freshman Emily Williams was timed at 20:32.88 and came across the line 50th. Brittney Brown, a freshman from Greeneville, finished at the 20:49.16 mark in 55th. Freshman Meghan O'Donoghue of Talbott clocked in at the 21:49.76 mark and came in 70th. Junior Emily Weinzetl of San Antonio, Tex., finished with 21:55.05 on the clock and came across the line 71st. Freshman Yeshi Dohrmann completed at 22:37.88 and 81st.
For the men's team, Taylor finished with a personal-best time of 26:02.60 and came in 19th. Freshman Matthew Bishop came across the finish line with a career-best 26:54.82 on the clock and completed the race 51st out of the 144 runners in the men's meet. Joseph DeLorenzo, a senior from Crossville, came in with a time of 27:05.98 and 55th. Not far behind was senior Ben Shassere, timed at 27:26.93 and finishing 70th. Sophomore Chris Bishop of Morristown finished at 27:53.05 and in 81st. Finishing close behind was sophomore John Greene, who clocked in a time of 28:00.09, a career-best, and came in 85th. Nathan Snow, a freshman from Collierville, completed the race with a personal-best at 28:13.32 and in 89th. Also coming in with a personal-best was freshman Adam McLeod with a time of 28:28.34 and in 94th. Two Tech runners completed close together. Freshman Kolbe Andrzejewski came in at 29:57.72 and in 116th. Steven Bretz, a sophomore from Hendersonville, finished with 30:06.83 on the clock and placed 117th.
