Tech keeps OVC streak alive with 5-1 win over SIUE

 

Cookeville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech tennis team knocked off Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIU Edwardsville Saturday afternoon 5-1, extending its conference winning streak to 14 and improving to a 6-0 league record this season. 

Tech captured its sixth consecutive doubles point of the season when they won the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. 

Duo Syrym Abdukhalikov and Alejandro Augusto defeated Cougars Marten Jonsson and Nico Kuehn, 9-7, keeping their own streak alive of 6-0 in doubles play this season. 

Junior Vasily Eremeev and sophomore Artem Tarasov also have a streak of their own, with their 8-6 win today, they are 5-0 in doubles play this season and one unfinished.

In singles play, Abdukhalikov defeated Jonsson in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 1 spot and is 6-0 in conference singles matches. 

In the No. 2 spot, Augusto defeated Nicolas Vincent, 6-3, 6-2, and is also 6-0 in OVC singles matches.

Eremeev won the No. 4 spot in the third set after downing Jacob Tanulanond, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Tech faces visiting Eastern Illinois Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Tech Tennis Courts. Admission is free to all Tech home matches.
