Four Tech players competing this weekend in Alabama, South Carolina
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team will be
trying to score points on two fronts this weekend, with players
heading to tournaments in Alabama and South Carolina.
Coach Kenny Doyle will take two players, Ezequiel Gils and
Alejandro Augusto, to Tuscaloosa to compete at the University of
Alabama Fall Invitational. At the same time, graduate assistant
coach Alex Chen will take the Tech tandem of Artem Tarasov and
Vasily Eremeev to Rock Hill, S.C., to play at the Carolinas
Invitational at Winthrop University.
“Both of these tournaments are really well-run events, and
both will offer excellent opportunities for our players,”
Doyle said.
It’s the final weekend of the fall portion of the schedule
for the Golden Eagles, who have recorded several impressive
victories during the past two months.
At Alabama, Augusto is in the top singles bracket, called the Bear
Bryant Draw, where he is scheduled to face Daniel Leitner of South
Alabama Friday after doubles play is completed.
In the Ray Perkins Draw, Gils is listed as facing Rens van der Vis
of Alabama, also following doubles action.
In the Ray Perkins Draw for doubles, Gils and Augusto are matched
up against Takuma Ohashi and Cedric Rutsaert of Tulane at 9 a.m.
Friday.
At Winthrop, Eremeev and Gils are in different halves of the
Division I singles bracket and each opens play Friday at 2 p.m.
Eremeev’s first contest is against Adam Knutsson of
Gardner-Webb, while Tarasov will face Adrien Rossignon of
Campbell.
In doubles, Gils and Eremeev will face Ben Barnette and Henry
Menzies of South Carolina at 1 p.m. Friday.
Results for the Golden Eagles in both tournaments will be posted on TTUsports.com when they become available.
