Joseph is a new addition to the Golden Eagle roster in 2010-11...a local standout in both tennis and wrestling at Cookeville High School...in his short time here at Tech he has already had success in the fall tournaments, winning matches in both singles and doubles. Joseph is a very strong and quick athlete and proves that he will provide depth in the line-up in the 2010-2011 fall and spring season.
At Tech -- In Fall 2010 (Freshman): Joseph proved to be a good contender in singles and doubles in his freshman debut at Tech. He finished the season with a 3-6 singles record and a 4-7 doubles record. After falling in the first round of the UNCG Invitational at the start of the fall season, Joseph came back to capture the next two rounds, earning his first wins at Tech. The following weekend he gained his next win after defeating Dean Butts of Detroit Mercy, 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of the backdraw. Joseph was most successful when teamed with John Taylor in doubles, the two posted a 3-4 record together after advancing to the quarterfinal rounds in the first two tournaments this fall, the UNCG Invitational and the Indiana Invitational. Paired with teammate James Crawford at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational, the two captured a first round win, 9-7, over West Alabama. Joseph has shown he can be an effective doubles and singles player in the line-up for Tech this spring.
High School Joseph attended Cookeville High School where he competed in wrestling and tennis. He had an impressive 44-0 record in wrestling his senior year, earning him a first place title for the second consecutive year at 171 lbs. He won the title in 2009 weighing 160 lbs. Joseph had his choice to play either sport in college, but decided to pursue tennis. In high school Joseph helped his tennis team reach 3rd place in state. Joseph's versatileness will be a big contribution for the Golden Eagles tennis team.
