HATTIESBURG, Miss. – It's time for golf at Tennessee Tech University as the Golden Eagle men's golf team will tee off for the first time of the 2013-14 season as it participates in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate this week.

The tournament, hosted by another Golden Eagle squad in Southern Miss, takes place at the nearly 100-year old Hattiesburg Country Club.

Beginning on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, the tournament will feature many teams from different southern states.

Here's an alphabetical look at the participating squads:

Arkansas State
Houston Baptist
Jackson State
Louisiana-Lafayette
Louisiana-Monroe
Mercer
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Rice
Sam Houston State
South Alabama
Southeastern Louisiana
Southern Miss
Texas-San Antonio

"We are very excited to begin the season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate," said head coach Polk Brown. "The field looks to be very strong headlined by two SEC squads (Ole Miss and Mississippi State). I feel as though we have a very good team, and I'm looking forward to seeing how we perform at Hattiesburg Country Club. I have heard many good things about the venue, and I believe it will be a great way to start the fall campaign."

Expected to play in the event is a good mix of experience and talent. The expected top five for the Golden Eagles this week:

  1. Lee Whitehead (Jr.)
  2. Mitch Thomas (So.)
  3. Bryce Kendrick (So.)
  4. Adam Cunningham (So.)
  5. Mason Griffin (R-Jr.)

The tournament also marks Griffin's first event in nearly a year after the junior redshirted the 2012-13 season.

The Golden Eagles will look to continue its momentum from the 2012-13 season when the squad finished third in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
