Tech tied after one round of golf  in Dickson

DICKSON, Tenn. – Lee Maxwell paced the Golden Eagles in the first round of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship with a by a 1-over par round of 73 at the GreyStone Country Club. Maxwell is currently tied for 15th place, while Tech is tied in seventh after day one with a score of 297 (+9).

Jacksonville State University combined for a first round score of 281 (-7) for the top spot after day one. They currently hold a six-stroke lead over second place Tennessee State and UT Martin and a 16-stroke lead over the Golden Eagles.

The day got off to a late start as tee times were pushed back an hour due to rain that fell in the morning. After the round got started it was later delayed 30 minutes due to lightning in the area.

But, poor weather early on did not stifle the swing of Murray State senior Cameron Carrico, who had the top stroke average and GolfStat National Ranking in the OVC this year, is the leader after an opening round score of 66 (-6). He is one of 10 players under par and followed closely by Jacksonville State's Andres Schonbaum, who is one stroke back (-5).

Maxwell shot a +1 with two birdies and 13 par holes on the day to earn his spot in the top 15 of the field of 45. Behind Maxwell is Tyler Cassetty, tied in 20th place with a 74 (+2) on round one.

JSU put four of its golfers in the top 11 overall in building its advantage while Tennessee State and UT Martin are the only two other teams under par at six shots back with rounds of 287 (-1). Defending champion Murray State sits in fourth place (+2) while Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay are tied for fifth at +3. Eastern Illinois is tied with Tech in seventh (+9) while Morehead State is ninth (+11).

The second round of play will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday morning, an hour earlier than scheduled in hopes of beating impending bad weather in the afternoon. Live scoring can be accessed through links at
