COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Two days after matching his career high with
15 points in Tech's win over Ball State, TTU freshman basketball
player Jud Dillard was recognized for his efforts as he was named
the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week on Monday. In
addition to his 15 points, Dillard grabbed four rebounds and added
two assists, a block and a steal in 19 minutes of action off the
bench for the Golden Eagles.
In a crucial two minute and 52 second span midway through the second half, Dillard took control of nearly every facet of the game. With Tech hanging on to a one-point lead, Dillard assisted Elijah Muhammad's three-pointer which put Tech up by four. Moments later, with Tech up by three he drove to the basket and hit a lay up. On Tech's next defensive possession Dillard blocked a shot, got the rebound and took it the length of the floor for a fast break lay up. He then stole Ball State's ensuing inbound attempt, and got another lay up, capping a spurt of eight points in 90 seconds that put the Golden Eagles up by seven.
"Were excited, Jud has done a great job for us all season long," Tennessee Tech head coach Mike Sutton said. "He scored around the rim, and has done a really nice job rebounding the ball. He is one of our better defenders as well. He is earning more and more playing time for us."
The 6-4 guard from Riverdale, Ga., is averaging 9.3 points per game for the Golden Eagles and has hit 52.0 percent (39-of-75) of his shots. He has scored in double figures five times, including a career-high 15 points in two of his last three outings. He is also second on the team in rebounding, averaging 3.9 boards per game.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Dec. 19 when they host Bryan College in the Eblen Center. Tickets are on sale now through the Golden Eagles Athletics Ticket Office by calling 372-3940 or visiting TTUsports.com.
