Tech coach Mike Sutton named to NCAA Tournament advisory committee
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech basketball coach Mike Sutton
has been selected to serve as a voting member of the Regional
Advisory Committee of the 2009 Division I Men's Basketball
Championship.
Sutton, in his seventh season as head coach at Tech, will help
steer the committee in its selections for the NCAA Men's Basketball
Tournament.
"It is an honor to be selected for the Regional Advisory Committee
for the NCAA Tournament," Sutton said. "I think the Selection
Committee does a great job and they really try to get the most
information that they can to make the process reflect having the
best teams available.
"The Tournament is the financial lifeline for the NCAA so the
process is extremely important, and I am excited to be a part of
it," he said.
The Regional Advisory Committee's ballots are important tools that
assist the national committee with the process of selecting
at-large teams for the NCAA Tournament.
Sutton, 52, has compiled a 107-84 overall record at Tech, posting
his milestone 100th career victory last season. This year, he
passed Tom Deaton on the Tech coaching list for career victories,
and now ranks third all-time in Golden Eagle history.
Sutton came to Tennessee Tech in 2003 after serving as an assistant
coach at the University of Kentucky, and became the most successful
first-year coach in Golden Eagle history.
In 2004-05, the Golden Eagles rolled to the OVC regular season
title, an 18-11 overall record and 12-4 league worksheet, and
Sutton was named the OVC Coach of the Year.
